ROADIE: The Misunderstood World of a Bike Racer.
"Though described by many as a "rolling chess game," a bike race is much more than that. I would describe it as a chess game, boxing match, and stampede disguised as a sport encompassed by a lifestyle surrounded by a community on a never-ending road trip to the brink of bankruptcy."
Seriously great words.
Pick up the book written by popular race announcer, Jamie Smith and illustrated by world famous cartoonist, Jef Mallett.

though i have not read the book, my understanding is that it is most appropriate for people who don't race but who may have some interaction w/ people who do... say an SO, spouse, that sort of person... someone who has to deal w/ the quirks and complexities of an aspiring amateur racer. a similar suggestion might be heft on wheels:)
ReplyDeleteThe book is funny...I think it is a great book for all riders: newbie- it explains what the hell everyone is talking about. An elite racer: it reminds you what a jack ass you are to the rest of the world..Heft on Wheels was pretty good..10 points is a great book for folks who have a family,job...blahblahblah and still want to rock it when they ride.
